Ukulele Corner Academy Code of Conduct
We are fortunate to have a kind, thoughtful, and considerate community at Ukulele Corner Academy. We very rarely need to intervene because of behaviour that diminishes the learning experience. However, this Code of Conduct clearly sets out what we expect from members and when the Ukulele Corner team may take action.
Interacting with Others
- Do not post anything that a reasonable person would consider offensive, abusive, discriminatory, or hateful.
- Do not harass or personally attack anyone. Treat others with dignity and consideration.
- Disagreement is welcome, but criticize ideas rather than people. Avoid name-calling, personal attacks, and arguments about someone’s tone rather than the substance of their contribution.
- Be clear and remain on topic. Tone and sarcasm can easily be misunderstood online, so consider how your words may be received.
- Discussions should generally relate to the ukulele, music, learning, and the wider musical world.
- Links should be shared because they provide relevant and useful information—not simply to attract traffic or promote a website. Please include an explanation of the link’s content and why you are sharing it.
- Post in the most appropriate area of the site and avoid posting the same information or question in multiple places.
Forming Groups Within Ukulele Corner
You may wish to connect with members working on the same course, discuss a particular piece of repertoire, or explore a shared musical interest. In these situations, you are welcome to start a forum topic and invite other members to join the discussion.
If you would like to establish a more formal group or create a new area within the forum, please contact the Ukulele Corner team at support@ukulelecorner.com.
We want to keep the forum focused and easy to navigate, but we are always open to thoughtful suggestions.
Forming Groups Outside Ukulele Corner
If you would like to create an independent group involving Ukulele Corner members, please follow these guidelines:
- Contact us at support@ukulelecorner.com before posting an invitation.
- Do not post open invitations in the forum without first speaking with a team member.
- Do not publicly post Zoom links or links to other online meeting rooms.
- Manage communication for the group through your own email or another private channel rather than through the Ukulele Corner forum.
- Do not use “Ukulele Corner,” “UC,” or “UCA” in the group’s name, as this could suggest that it is an official Ukulele Corner event.
- Keep groups relatively small and do not contact large numbers of members for recruitment.
- Respect members’ privacy and do not share their contact information without permission.
- Make it clear who is organizing the group, what participants should expect, and that it is not an official Ukulele Corner event.
Ukulele Corner Academy regularly offers live sessions for the whole community. We therefore encourage independent groups to have a more specific purpose, such as a shared location, time zone, repertoire interest, or learning goal.
Groups should retain a clear connection to the ukulele and music. We cannot help facilitate groups whose primary purpose is unrelated to Ukulele Corner’s educational community.
Although it is not required, we appreciate occasional updates about group activities. Where appropriate, we may be able to support the group or help other Ukulele Corner members discover its activities.
If a group grows over time, we would appreciate Ukulele Corner Academy being acknowledged as the place where it began. We also ask that independent events are not scheduled in direct conflict with regularly scheduled Ukulele Corner events.
Community Calendar and Events
If Ukulele Corner provides a community calendar, members may submit relevant ukulele-related events for consideration.
Events must be appropriate for the community and must not directly conflict with major Ukulele Corner events. Inclusion is at the discretion of the Ukulele Corner team.
Please contact support@ukulelecorner.com if you would like to suggest an event.
Advertising and Promotion
The Academy’s primary purpose is learning. To keep the community useful and welcoming, we limit advertisements, promotions, and unrelated material.
- Unsolicited posts promoting an event, product, service, business, institution, or organization are not permitted.
- You may mention a relevant product or service when genuinely answering another member’s question.
- Please do not repeatedly promote the same product, service, organization, publication, or event.
- Affiliate links and promotional links should not be posted without prior permission.
Sharing Your Own Projects
If you have published a book, released a recording, created a website, or completed another relevant project, please contact the Ukulele Corner team before posting about it.
In most cases, occasional announcements from active members will not be a problem. Regular promotion of a podcast, website, business, organization, blog, or recurring event requires prior discussion with the Ukulele Corner team.
Contact us at support@ukulelecorner.com, and we will help determine the most appropriate way to share it.
Content That Is Not Allowed
Hate Speech and Discrimination
We do not tolerate content that attacks or demeans a person or group based on identity or personal characteristics. Members must remain respectful when discussing sensitive subjects.
Bullying and Harassment
Bullying, intimidation, habitual badgering, and targeted harassment are not permitted.
Impersonation
You may not impersonate another person, use someone else’s account or email address, copy another member’s identity, or intentionally use a deceptively similar username.
Violations of Privacy
Do not post another person’s private information, including their phone number, private email address, home address, or other identifying information.
Use private communication when exchanging personal information, and obtain permission before sharing another person’s details.
Sexually Explicit Content
Discussions of music and the arts may occasionally involve mature themes. However, pornographic, sexually explicit, or deliberately prurient material is not permitted.
If you are uncertain whether something is appropriate, please contact us before posting it.
Spam
Do not post advertisements, misleading links, repetitive promotions, irrelevant material, or links to spam websites. Content that we consider spam may be removed.
Threats and Violence
You may not threaten violence or use the Academy to organize, promote, encourage, or celebrate real-world violence or terrorism.
Consider carefully how your words and images could be interpreted. Something intended as a joke may still reasonably be perceived as a threat.
Where we believe there is a genuine danger of physical harm or a threat to public safety, we may report the matter to the appropriate authorities.
Copyrighted or Illegal Content
Members must respect copyright and intellectual-property laws.
You may share material that you created yourself, have permission or a licence to share, or know is legally in the public domain. Do not upload copyrighted sheet music, books, recordings, videos, or other protected materials without permission.
Links to legitimate YouTube videos and authorized sources are generally permitted. Do not post links to unauthorized downloads or explain how to obtain copyrighted material illegally.
Limited excerpts may sometimes be permitted for criticism, discussion, or educational purposes, but there is no universal percentage that automatically makes copying lawful. You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to post everything you share.
Children
Anyone under the age of 13 may not post directly in the forum. A parent or legal guardian must participate on their behalf.
