Etude 17 by Coste for Classical Ukulele
Etude 17 by Coste for Classical Ukulele. Napoléon Coste, a renowned 19th-century French guitarist and composer, created both study pieces for students and grand concert works. This particular etude offers a valuable challenge for developing left-hand independence.
Performance Notes
This study features sustained bass notes, the coordinated use of the 3rd and 4th fingers across strings, and counterpoint, with the melody and bass moving in contrary motion in measures 13 and 14, leading to a high octave A in measure 16.
To master pieces with these technical demands, it’s crucial to practice slowly and repeat short phrases multiple times. Focus on playing each measure many times before progressing, ensuring that both your right and left hand techniques are solid. This methodical approach will help you overcome the challenges and fully internalize the piece.
