Symphony 3 by Saint-Saëns for Classical Ukulele

In this video, Jeff Peterson performs his low-G arrangement of the theme from Symphony 3 by Saint-Saëns for classical ukulele. This theme gained wider recognition through its use in the film Babe, introducing a new generation of listeners to the exquisite music of Saint-Saëns.

Performance Notes

This lyrical theme by Saint-Saëns features block chords and beautiful harmonic shifts, moving from the key of F to A and then returning to F. Adding expression through rolling chords can be very effective in this piece. The time signature is an unusual 9/4, with nine quarter notes per measure. Each of the four lines concludes with a measure of 6/4.

The right hand primarily uses PIM for most chords, but PIA is employed when the 2nd string is not played. Take time to study the voicing of the chords and see if you can recognize any familiar patterns.
