Estudio 1 by Aguado for Baritone Ukulele

In this video Jeff plays his arrangement of Estudio 1 by Aguado for Baritone Ukulele. This piece was originally written for classical guitar and is part of the Graded Repertoire for Classical Ukulele Baritone Edition.

Estudio en Arpeggios

This short study by Aguado focuses on a simple arpeggio pattern: p-i-m-i. While the thumb moves between the third and the fourth strings, the i finger always plays on the second string and the m finger the first. So a great way to practice this pattern is to play the right hand by itself. Once you’re comfortable playing the right hand by itself we can add the left hand back in afterwards.

Because we are playing arpeggios in the right hand, the left-hand fingers can go down in sequence, one by one, which makes it easier to play in the left hand.

Baritone Ukulele

The baritone ukulele, the largest of the ukulele family of instruments, uses a completely different tuning from tenor and soprano ukulele. In fact, it’s the same tuning as the first four strings of the guitar: DGBE. This makes it an excellent instrument for adapting classical guitar music, like Aguado’s, to the ukulele. 

Not only does the baritone ukulele have a bigger body, but it also has a deeper and thus richer sound. This can make it a great instrument for pieces where you want a darker sound.
