In this video, Jeff Peterson plays his baritone fingerstyle ukulele arrangement of the famous song “Moonglow.”

Moonglow

Moonglow was written by Eddie Delange (lyrics) and Will Hudson and Irving Mills (music) and recorded by many artists like Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and Cab Calloway. Here are the full lyrics to the song:

It must have been moonglow, way up in the blue

It must have been moonglow that led me straight to you

I still hear you sayin’, “Dear one, hold me fast”

And I keep on prayin’, “Oh Lord, please let this last”

We seemed to float right through the air

Heavenly songs seemed to come from everywhere

And now when there’s moonglow, way up in the blue

I’ll always remember, that moonglow gave me you

It must have been moonglow, way up in the blue

It must have been moonglow that led me straight to you

I still hear you sayin’, “Sweet child, hold me fast”

And I keep on prayin’, “Oh Lord, please let this last”

We seemed to float right through the air

Heavenly songs seemed to come from everywhere

And now when there’s moonglow, way up in the blue

I’ll always remember, that moonglow gave me you

Moonglow for Fingerstyle Ukulele

Jeff’s arrangement uses a lot of moving chords strummed with the thumb. In fact, strumming is a big part of this arrangement and Jeff frequently uses the thumb-down and index-up strumming pattern throughout. Then Jeff lets loose with a ton of improvisatory elements, true to the original style of this great jazz standard.
