Moorish Dance for Classical Ukulele

In this video Jeff plays his arrangement of the Spanish traditional Moorish Dance for classical ukulele.

This variation on a traditional flamenco theme offers an excellent opportunity to refine your PIM technique. This is a technique where you alternate between bass notes played by the thumb and melody notes played by the index and middle fingers. The piece also emphasizes smooth transitions from the thumb’s work on the lower strings to scale runs using index and middle finger alternation. The harmony enhances the Spanish flair, moving from A minor to Bb and incorporating a classic Andalusian sequence of Dm, C, Bb, and Am.

To fully capture the spirit of the piece, start by practicing at a very slow tempo. Then gradually increase your speed until you reach around 130 beats per minute. This is a fun and rewarding piece to play, so take your time mastering it, enjoying the journey as you go.
