Romance by Molino for Classical Ukulele

Performance Notes
Composed by the 18th and 19th-century Italian guitarist, violinist, and composer Francesco Molino, this piece beautifully integrates techniques and concepts we’ve explored in previous pieces. These include grace notes, 6/8 time, counterpoint, sustain, PIM technique, and left-hand independence. With its constant interplay between parts, it’s helpful to practice the up-stem and down-stem parts separately. This allows you to achieve a clear separation and balance between the voices.
In terms of dynamics, use a decrescendo leading into measure 8 to softly conclude the first section each time. Begin measure 9 with a forte dynamic. Then create a piano echo in measure 11, demonstrating a technique often referred to as terraced dynamics. Look for similar sections where this dynamic contrast can be applied.
As you approach the end of the piece, maintain a steady decrescendo from measure 24 onward. For the final chord, use a soft, slow roll to wind down gracefully, providing a delicate and elegant conclusion.
